Sean Duffy Uses The L-Bomb On Artists Who Dropped Out Of Great American State Fair In Droves

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is taking an “L” on social media for the way he described the many musicians who have declined to play at this summer’s Great American State Fair in Washington. Duffy apparently didn’t get the memo that the fair, meant to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, is part of a series of events that are supposed to be nonpartisan and “engage all Americans,” as a spokesperson for Freedom 250, the organization behind the festivities, previously told HuffPost in an email. On Wednesday, the transportation secretary was at the fair, warming up the crowd for the president, when he saluted the acts there to perform, including the Marine Band, “God Bless The USA” singer Lee Greenwood, tenor Christopher Macchio and country singer Alexis Wilkins, the girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel. But as the video below shows, Duffy made sure to mix his praise for the performers onstage with an attack on those who opted out. “I think we have to give a big round of applause for our military band and singers,” he told the crowd, before adding, “Way better than those libtards that canceled on us. So much better. Thank you, guys. President Trump will make you famous.” Duffy: think we have to give a big round of applause for our military band and singers. Way better than those libtards that canceled on us. So much better. Thank you guys. President Trump will make you famous. pic.twitter.com/wlRMH3mKyU Although Duffy’s insult was a hit with the Trumpers in attendance, he was roundly mocked on social media. Fucking hell, a high ranking Cabinet member using a term like “libtard” in official, public remarks??How much lower into the gutter are we going to descend? 😒☹️ https://t.co/KFM5Xg5Fsd "Way better than those libtards who canceled on us."In one sentence, Duffy both complains about the musical acts who canceled and completely legitimizes their stated reason for doing so. https://t.co/RbIPHRuLct Classy. Very classy. https://t.co/xwBUWKNMut Some people piled on Duffy by noting that he had spent seven months filming a reality show with his family when he was presumably serving the country. Sean Duffy is unqualified for his job, and has spent more of his time doing reality TV than protecting Americans https://t.co/vlf3Z2zfWC 7 month vacation asshole says what? F this guy, https://t.co/Zfb8QVnp94 Others questioned Duffy’s use of a word that derives from a slur about people with intellectual disabilities — especially while he was standing next to his child with Down syndrome. Libtards? In case folks didn't know, Duffy's youngest daughter was born with Down Syndrome. https://t.co/Fmez8nqhMe @SecDuffy Sean Duffy just said this on stage! My heart breaks for his poor little girl!Shame on you Secretary!Your daughter deserves better than this despicable behavior! There is no excuse.#fyp #seanduffy #daughter #downsyndrome #tragic pic.twitter.com/sERKuBUMIw HuffPost reached out to Duffy’s office for a response to the reaction to his “libtard” comments. “I will not be lectured by the same people who want to abort babies with special needs. Rather than policing language, maybe liberals should spend time with these beautiful children, acknowledge their humanity, and while they’re at it, try loving their country more than they hate President Trump,” Duffy said. Meanwhile, a Freedom 250 spokesperson responded with the statement that said, in part, “Freedom 250 is about patriotism, gratitude, unity, and confidence in America’s future.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
