"I’ve worked in digester pits as a pipefitter. In my experience, they are all aerated to aid in the digestion, meaning you can't swim in the liquid at all and will promptly plummet to the bottom of a 20-30 foot deep lake of churning shit water."—u/NileakTheVet

"It was a seemingly normal group of people torturing her with no apparent history of violence or abuse. Not saying they were nice people, but 99% of the stories in this thread involve awful, tragic accidents, or gangsters or the cartel or the Taliban or something. Not for Sylvia. She was entrusted to a local woman who already looked after a load of kids and was paid to look after her. She had all the motivation in the world to cash the checks and remain an unassuming member of society. Instead, she tortures her and arranges for local school children of around the same age to come and abuse her, too. One young man would 'practice' his judo on her, for example. I won't type anything more, I won't force people to read what happened to her, but everyone should know."—u/Jellywell

"Wasn't a geyser. It was the Celestine Pool, a highly acidic hot spring with temperatures consistently above 200 degrees Fahrenheit. He dove in to go after his friend's dog, Moosie. Before reaching the dog, he realized his mistake and turned back, just barely pulling himself out of the pool before going unconscious. Blinded with second and third-degree burns over his entire body, he died the next day. The dog dissolved and was never recovered."—u/Big_Statistician2566

"From what I recall, he wasn't even being intentionally reckless with exploring an uncharted cave system as you'd think. It was a mapped-out area, and he thought it was a different passage called the Birth Canal, a known squeeze that opens into a room where he would turn around. By the time he realized his mistake, it was too late."—u/itreallyisthateasy

"Even worse was that at one point the rescuers thought they were able to free him, got him out a bit, and then the pulley system snapped and dropped him further in. It also broke the rescuer's jaw and nearly cut his tongue off."—u/Morel3etterness
