(NewsNation) — The Australian government has reversed course and will now fund injured and disabled veterans to compete in the Invictus Games. Officials axed funding for Invictus Australia in the federal budget last month, but public scrutiny, including from veteran groups, blasted the decision, resulting in the about-face, according to News.com.au. Prince Harry likely NOT meeting up with King Charles this summer: Exclusive Australia’s federal government will fund Invictus Australia for roughly $2.1 million a year for the next three years, per reports. “The past few weeks have highlighted the strength of the community – it has been their advocacy, sharing their stories and articulating so well the impact of the Invictus movement on them that has been incredibly powerful,” Invictus Australia chief executive Michael Hartung told the outlet. “We thank the federal government for reviewing the decision to discontinue funding for Invictus Australia and are delighted that veterans and their families will be able to continue to benefit from our world-leading program in the years ahead,” he said. The Invictus Games were founded by Prince Harry in 2014 to serve wounded and disabled veterans. However, the organization has faced reported challenges in recent months, including staffing and financial issues.
