Vice President JD Vance attempted some damage control on Wednesday after President Donald Trump said that he doesn’t “think about Americans’ financial situation” when considering a deal to end the war in Iran. While making remarks at the White House on the Trump administration’s so-called “war on fraud,” Vance was pressed on the president’s comments. “Do you agree with the president’s position that Americans’ financial situations should not be a consideration?” the vice president was asked. “Well, I don’t think the president said that, I think that’s a misrepresentation of what the president said,” Vance replied. “Look, I agree with the president that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon. We’re obviously engaged in a very aggressive and very engaged diplomatic process to try to ensure that that doesn’t happen, and the president has a lot of options.” Reporter: Do you agree with the President’s position that Americans' financial situations should not be a consideration?Vance: I don’t think he said that. (He did). I think that's a misrepresentation of what the president said. pic.twitter.com/jZUAJXUFQV Trump on Iran War:Reporter: What extent are Americans’ financial situation motivating you to make a deal?Trump: Not even a little bit. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) appeared to try to play dumb, saying he didn’t “know the context in which he made that comment.” “I can tell you the president thinks about Americans’ financial situations,” Johnson said. “I talk to him, on average, twice a day, sometimes three or four times a day, and we talk about it constantly.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
