(NewsNation) — Images of mysterious structures on the lunar landscape are sparking questions around possible remnants of other galactic civilizations that were left behind during previous visits to Earth’s moon.

Theoretical physicist Maaneli “Max” Derakhshani joined this week’s episode of “Reality Check with Ross Coulthart” to discuss the possibility of artificial structures on the moon, citing anomalies in NASA’s lunar photographs. Derakhshani says the moon and Mars are “two of the most natural candidates” for places to leave something.

Derakhshani points to a series of images previously released by NASA that appear to show tall, towerlike shapes with shadows.

“I’ve actually calculated, based on the known sun angle, how long, how tall the structure is,” he said. “And it turns out to be about 95 feet, which is roughly the height of the Artemis II rocket that sent astronauts to the moon recently. So that’s quite tall.”

He added that there appears to be debris surrounding the towerlike structures, almost like track marks.

“It’s not like these structures skidded in from somewhere else. There’s no series of craters which indicate that it bounced to arrive here,” Derakhshani said. “They’re just here, sitting here in this otherwise consistent terrain.”

Derakhshani notes that because NASA images may contain anomalies, some may interpret them as evidence of unusual objects. Depending on lighting, shadows and image quality, those interpretations can vary, with some leaning toward the argument the images show signs of extraterrestrial life.

“Even if the intention is to hide things or to scrub these images of genuine anomalies, some things will fall through the cracks,” he said.

Derakhshani argues that if scientists outside of NASA can find anomalies in NASA’s data, it’s hard to believe NASA hasn’t found similar anomalies or possibly the same ones.

“Hopefully we can get some answers, or, you know, from the new administrator of NASA, especially in connection with President Trump’s recent pledge to release all of the files related to extraterrestrials,” he said.
