Pete Davidson's 5-Word Speech At Awards Show Is A Bit On The Dark Side

Comic Pete Davidson’s brief acceptance speech at the Webby Awards stood out from the rest ― and maybe not in a good way. (Watch the video below.) Many winners of the online honors turned the ceremony’s tradition of five-word speeches into upbeat or inspiring bits. “I am just getting started,” uber producer Shonda Rhimes said after winning Streaming Person of the Year. “A free press is essential,” said journalist Don Lemon, who won the Webby Award and People’s Voice Award for Best Video Podcast Host. At least one recipient melded politics and humor. “Formerly undocumented immigrant. Current winner,” Atsuko Okatsuka said for the best comedy category. But Davidson had something a bit more downbeat in mind when he got his Special Achievement Award. “Thanks. I’m still dead inside,” he said. "Thanks. He also took some flak for a Charlie Kirk joke at Kevin Hart’s roast on Sunday that some saw as offensive. But still, the “Saturday Night Live” alum might have simply been mining laughs on the darker side Monday. He seemed a tad more buoyant in an offstage interview. Asked what he would advise his younger self, the comic replied: “Don’t be too hard on yourself.
