House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday fired back at President Donald Trump, who earlier in the day described him as a “totally low IQ person.”

“What’s so ironic is that Donald Trump is clearly the dumbest person ever to sit at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” Jeffries told MS NOW’s Lawrence O’Donnell.

Trump frequently uses “low IQ person” as a go-to insult. Although the president most often applies it to people of color, last week, he slapped his former MAGA pal Tucker Carlson with the phrase.

Yet Jeffries didn’t dwell on what he called an “extraordinary insult.” Instead, he said Trump and his enablers in Congress “have completely and totally failed America” on policy.

“They failed on the economy, failed on health care, failed on immigration enforcement, and now they’ve gotten us into a reckless and costly war of choice,” he said, noting that more than a dozen Americans had already been killed and some 400 others wounded in Trump’s war on Iran.

“We’re wasting billions of dollars dropping bombs in the Middle East,” Jeffries said. “And these guys won’t spend a dime to actually make life more affordable for the American people.”
