This week in TV and movie news, Steve Carell’s new comedy series is the best show you might not be watching, the best reactions to that incredible “Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” trailer, and much more. As a Senior Talent Booker and Producer at BuzzFeed, you can typically catch me flailing about the buzziest TV shows and movies. The Pitt wraps up its sophomore season tonight, which means if you haven’t clocked in to your 15-hour shift yet, now is the time. This season takes place on the Fourth of July as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) looks to complete his final shift in the ER before a sabbatical. While I think Season 1 had stronger patients as characters that I fell in love with, this season was still great. Namely, I need to give flowers to Sepideh Moafi, who joined as Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi. She has fit into this world so perfectly, and in the final two episodes of the season, she gives my favorite performance. I really hope Sepideh gets the same treatment Shawn Hatosy got last awards season because she is exceptional. Basically, Season 2 once again proved that The Pitt has one of the best ensemble casts on TV right now, with so many strong performances even outside the main characters. And if you still want more of this cast after the episode airs, you can watch them find out which characters they’re most like IRL by clicking here. Streaming on HBO Max; new episodes every Sunday Steve Carell returns to TV in a new comedy series from Bill Lawrence and the team behind shows like Shrinking and Ted Lasso. Rooster follows Greg Russo (Carell), a well-known author, who is just trying to make sure his daughter, Katie (Charly Clive), is doing okay after her marriage publicly crumbles. To keep a closer eye on her, Greg takes a job as a guest teacher at the college where she works. Now, determined to help Katie, Greg also begins to learn a thing or two, especially from his young students, who adore his popular beach-read-like novels featuring a private investigator named Rooster. Steve and the rest of the cast are so great together, and each episode of this first season has been better than the last. Steve and Danielle Deadwyler have such good chemistry. John C. McGinley brings his unique humor and heart. Phil Dunster is in another great role after Ted Lasso. And, Charly Clive is proving to be a scene-stealing up-and-comer in her first big series. I’ve been having so much fun watching this one. Creator Lee Sung Jin returns with a new cast for the second installment of BEEF. This time around, newly engaged couple Ashley (Cailee Spaeny) and Austin (Charles Melton) work as lower-level staff at a fancy country club. Suddenly, they witness an alarming fight between their boss and his wife. Now, they have somehow ended up entangled in the unraveling marriage between Joshua (Oscar Isaac) and Lindsay (Carey Mulligan). These two different couples are now on a collision course as they vie for the approval of the elitist club's billionaire owner, Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-jung), who is also managing her own scandal involving her second husband (Song Kang-ho). While I don’t think Season 2 is as strong as Season 1, Carey and Oscar are incredible. There was magic in the first season, and while this season might not recapture the exact magic, Carey and Oscar playing a couple on the verge of collapse is so enthralling that you will binge the whole season as fast as you can. Okay, I’m sure there are a few I’m forgetting, but these would be the top five props I would steal from any movie set if I were given the chance: 1. A lightsaber from any Star Wars movie. I know it would just be the hilt, but like, c’mon, it’s necessary 2. Jo March’s handwritten manuscript from Greta Gerwig’s Little Women 3. Mia’s diary from The Princess Diaries 4. Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch’s crown from WandaVision 5. A piece of the cursed gold from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Have a question for me, or want to tell me what you’re watching right now, or have a suggestion of what I should watch next?
