MS NOW’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Tuesday argued that descriptions of Donald Trump as the “leader of the free world” are now being disregarded in favor of another label: “a dangerous and corrupt gangster.”

The host pointed to remarks from Ed Davey, a member of the British Parliament who recently took aim at Trump over his genocidal threat to Iran.

Davey, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, described Trump’s threat as a “stark reminder of how reckless, immoral and completely outside the bounds of international law this president is.”

“Regrettably, he is no friend of the United Kingdom,” said Davey of Trump in a parliamentary statement on Monday.

“He’s no leader of the free world. He is a dangerous and corrupt gangster and that is how we must treat him.”

O’Donnell, who tossed to an audio recording of U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill referring to Adolf Hitler as a “monster of wickedness” in 1941 earlier in his monologue, argued that Davey’s label for Trump “will no doubt be the title of at least one biography” on the president.

“That is the kind of description of Donald Trump that will live in history because of where it was given, because of when it was given, and because of ... centuries of positive history between presidents of the United States and the British Parliament,” O’Donnell said.

Davey’s description of Trump arrives as he calls on King Charles’ upcoming state visit to the U.S. to be canceled. Charles is set to address Congress and is scheduled to meet with Trump during the trip set for later this month.

O’Donnell noted that U.S. presidents were once regarded as “heroes” by the British Parliament before adding, “Now the president of the United States can be called ‘a dangerous and corrupt gangster’ in Parliament, and no one shouts that down. No one disagrees.”

Davey, elsewhere in his remarks, warned that Trump’s “cunning plan” to blockade the Strait of Hormuz could only escalate the U.K.’s cost-of-living crisis.

O’Donnell stressed that the president is “now a problem” that has to be solved by the British government and others in Europe.
