The Tractor Supply in Loris remains closed Thursday after a fire caused damage to the store’s garden center and roof.

Loris Fire Department Chief Jerry Hardee said he saw plums of black smoke rising from the store upon his arrival Wednesday. The fire began in an area of the garden center, located in the back of the store, Hardee said.

The fire, which began about 4 p.m., caused the store to be evacuated and eventually closed after the fire was extinguished, Hardee said. No one was injured in the fire.

It appears the fire started in an area where employees unload equipment and surplus inventory, Hardee said. The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined, he said. Part of the roof was on fire and the building did receive some water and smoke damage, Hardee said.

The store remains closed Thursday pending the electricity being restored and an inspection by the fire department.

Hardee is not sure if the store will reopen Thursday, but he believes it should be open by Friday, he said.
