Primanti Bros. announced this week it has closed two more locations in Pennsylvania. The popular restaurant chain, known for its sandwiches made with French fries and coleslaw, said on Monday that it had closed its Monroeville and North Versailles locations in the Pittsburgh area. “It’s not a decision we take lightly,” Primanti spokesperson Ryan Wilkinson said via email to TribLive. “Over the past few years, we’ve seen a meaningful shift in consumer behaviors in both of these locations, which led us to focus resources on other locations in the Pittsburgh market.” “Sometimes the consumer demand changes, and the market changes from area to area, so we just felt it was the right time for that,” company CEO Gerald Pulsinelli said to WTAE. Pulsinelli added that the employees at these locations have been offered the chance to work at the chain’s other restaurants in the area. New restaurants are already scheduled to open at the two locations. The Monroeville location will become a Thorn Hill Tap House, while the North Versailles location will be the site of a Smash Pub. Primanti has closed several locations over the past year, including restaurants at 100 Eisenhower Drive in Hanover and 983 Norland Ave. in Chambersburg. In addition, the locations at the Capital City Mall in Lower Allen Township and the Lancaster Shopping Center in Lancaster County were closed back in February. The chain has also closed restaurants in West Virginia and other locations in Pittsburgh. It also backed out of a plan to open a restaurant at Susquehanna Union Green in Susquehanna Township.
