Shallowater ISD boys basketball coach Jay Lusk and his family were among those injured in a car crash Friday night as they traveled back from San Antonio.

The school district released a statement early Saturday afternoon confirming that Lusk, along with his wife and son, were in a car when the crash occurred and while all three were hospitalized, they were safe and expected to make a full recovery. The driver of the other vehicle is also expected to recover, according to the statement.

The crash reportedly occurred near Eden - west of San Angelo - and all three were taken to a San Angelo hospital for treatment. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed it is investigating the crash, adding that occupants in Lusk's vehicle remained hospitalized Saturday afternoon and were in serious condition. Other details about the crash were not immediately available.

The crash came hours after Shallowater's girls basketball team competed in the Class 3A Division I state championship game against Hitchcock in the Alamodome in San Antonio. Shallowater fell 60-46 in that game.

"We ask that everyone keep their family and our Mustang basketball team in your thoughts andprayers" reads the statement released by Shallowater ISD director of communications Jennifer Mitchell. "As you can imagine, this has been an emotional several hours for our players and coaching staff as they prepare for todayโ€™s Regional Championship game. "We would also like to ask you to keep the Paris family in your thoughts and prayers," the statement continues. "We are thankful for the outpouring of support from our friends in other districts around the State of Texas, for the UIL, and for our neighbors throughout West Texas. To the community of Brownfield, thank you for your kindness today as we all recognize that some things matter far more than what happens on the court.Out of respect for the families involved, we will not release any other information at this time.
